BIOL 211: Using Library Resources to Find Biology Articles

Acceptable Resources

For your assignment:

  • Acceptable sources for articles will be from scholarly, scientific journals.  
  • You will need to find peer reviewed, scientific articles.
  • Your article must discuss:
    • The main research question
    • Methods used in the investigation
    • Results of the study
    • The conclusion of the investigation

Finding Journal Articles

  • For most academic work, scholarly journals are the best place to look for research. 
  • Primary research articles (where the authors did the experiment themselves) found in Peer-Reviewed journals are the best source of scientific discovery.  
  • Recommended databases for finding scholarly resources are:
  • Searching these databases for your topic will lead you to journal articles.

To access these databases from off-campus, you will be asked to enter your Student ID and a library password.

Finding these sources in the library

After you choose your research topic identify your key search terms.  You can add additional search fields, narrow your search to specific publication years, and select or deselect citation indexes that you don't need, then Search.
