Formatting Your CSULB Master's Thesis or Doctoral Dissertation: Home

This guide is designed to help you format your manuscript using the official University Guidelines Manual and the style guide approved by your department as part of the requirements for a graduate level degree at California State University, Long Beach.

New Formatting Rules Approved for 2016

ATTENTION: New, simpler formatting rules have been approved for 2016.

During the transition period of Spring 2016 and Summer 2016 semesters, manuscripts using either the old 2011 formatting rules or the new 2016 formatting rules will be acceptable.

The new rules for 2016 should be adhered to completely or the old rules for 2011 should be adhered to completely; that is, rules from 2011 and 2016 cannot be mixed.

Beginning with Fall 2016 submissions, only the 2016 formatting rules will be accepted.

The 2016 revised version of the University Style and Format Guidelines for Theses, Project Reports, and Dissertations will be available online as soon as possible. In the meantime, supplementary materials (PowerPoints and templates) for 2016 formatting rules and 2011 formatting rules are available on these web pages

Please contact the Thesis and Dissertation Office if you have any questions or concerns about the revised formatting rules.
