LGBTQUIA Information Seeking

The CSULB Library maintains an extensive collection of LGBTQUIA resources comprised of scholarly materials, primary sources, multimedia content, documentaries, feature films, and leisure reading in fiction, including Children's and Young Adult fiction. These resources document and explore the histories, cultures, and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, undecided, intersex, asexual, and allied communities. Please take note of the access points explained below.

The Arnold T. Schwab Endowed Collection focuses entirely on LGBTQUIA topics and authors. 

You can browse the Schwab Collection as well as search within it. 

• Search using broad terms with connectors. For example, if you are interested in Trans topics, type in simple terms: Trans AND Identity

Using the OneSearch box, on the Library Homepage, you can broadly search topics with just a few key words. 

1. Use broad topic terms with a connecting word. For example, if you are interested in HIV preventative healthcare, type in: HIV and PrEP
2. Use the dropdown menu of the OneSearch box to select the materials you want
   • Books & Media CSULB looks in our book catalog
   • Books & Media CSU looks in the book catalogs of all the CSU Libraries
   • Articles just searches journals, magazines, and reports
   • Newspapers will search for newspaper articles
   • Everything searches Articles and Books across all the CSU Libraries
3. Once you get results, use the Filter Results on the Left Side to narrow down your search
   • Especially check out the Subjects
   • Select Location to find items in areas of the Library such as the Children's & Young Adult (YA) Collections
     • We have an extensive collection of Children's and YA LGBTQUIA materials
   • Always select Show More to see all the options
