Data Management Plans: Why Manage Your Research Data?

Use this guide to develop a Data Management Plan for your research. This is required by U.S. funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

Importance of a Data Management Plan

A data management plan helps you:

Learn more about the additional benefits to industry and other external partners when you share your data.

Funding agencies now require researchers to provide a data management plan as part of their funding proposals.

The Data Management Planning Tool developed by a group of major U.S. research institutions, offers ready-to-use templates to create data management plans for the NSF, NIH, NEH, NOAA, GBMF and IMLS. To get started, click here, select "Not in List" and click Next, and you'll be able to create an account or login.

Contact the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs if you have questions about data management plans.

Don't Let This Happen to You!
