Research Tip:
When researching an industry, be aware that there may be different terminology for the same sector. For example, if you're investigating the washing machine industry, you might also find relevant information under terms like 'home appliances,' 'household appliances,' 'consumer appliances,' 'domestic appliances,' 'major appliances,' 'hard goods,' or 'durable goods'.

Step 2: The sections "About" and "Industry at a Glance" contain overview-type information.

Step 1: Enter an industry's name into a search box. Alternately, you can enter a NAICS code and change 'Select a Field (optional)' to 'IC NAICS Code or Description'.
Step 2: Scroll down to 'Search Options'. In the 'Document Type' area, select 'Industry Overview'.
Step 3: Press Search.
Note - You can use the publication date slider on the left-hand side of the search results page to limit your results to documents published within whatever time period you specify, which should help you find recent documents that discuss trends/projections/forecasts for your industry.

Step 1: Select the icon of three horizontal lines toward the top left-hand side of the page.
Step 2: Select 'Browse' from the resulting sub-menu.
Step 3: Under 'Industry and Market Research' section at the top of the page, select 'Business Monitor International (BMI) Industry Reports' and/or 'First Research'.
Step 4: Browse Business Monitor International's Industry Reports by industry or topic as well as by country; you can browse First Research's Industry Reports by industry.
Note - Your search results will be sorted alphabetically by title by default. You might want to re-sort them so that the most recent results are listed first.

Step 1: Select the 'Industry Analysis' tab toward the top of the database's home page.
Step 2: Select 'Reports' on the resulting page and then select 'Mergent Reports'.
Step 3: Select the industry for which you would like an industry analysis report. Reports are available for the largest global industries.

Reports that provide an aggregate of a variety of data, mainly statistics. Search for data by industry, political issue, consumerism, companies or countries. The data reports provide sourcing information.

The source link will often provide you with insight on additional associations or publications that are focused on your research interest, providing an efficient way to identify next steps for your research.
